I’m Laurence Norah, a full-time travel photographer and travel blogger.
I started my travel blog, Finding the Universe, in 2010, back when blogging was still a relatively new thing. In 2015 I married my wife Jessica, who had her own travel blog, Independent Travel Cats. Today we run them both together.
Originally from the UK, I’ve been lucky enough to travel all around the world. I’ve lived in Australia, New Zealand, France, the USA, the Seychelles, and many parts of the UK. We’re currently based near Bath.
I’ve been a keen photographer since age 13, when my parents gifted me a film SLR. I was lucky enough to have access to a dark room at school, so I learned photography the old-fashioned way. My first digital camera came at age 21.
A hobby grew into a profession. I’ve been taking photos for over thirty years, and my work has been published online by National Geographic, BBC, CNN, USA Today, The Times, The Evening Standard, Condé Nast Traveler, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, and Reader’s Digest.
I’ve worked with clients from tourism boards (Visit Britain, Visit Florida, Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona) to photography brands (Panasonic, Vanguard). My photography has also won awards from the Society of American Travel Writers and The Times.
Teaching photography is a logical extension. I’ve taught at workshops and seminars around the world, from Dublin to Dubai, and spoken at conferences including The Photography Show, TBEX, TravelCon, TTG Italia, and Arabian Travel Market.
I launched this course in late 2016. Since then I’ve taught over 2,000 students how to get off Auto and start taking photos they’re proud of.
Photography can feel intimidating, and it’s easy to keep the camera in Auto and hope for the best. The course walks you through the alternatives step-by-step, with examples, images, and videos for each technique. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a long-time amateur, it meets you where you are.
There’s also an active Facebook community of fellow students, which is one of the things members tell me they value most.
