About Me

Hi there!

You may be wondering who I am, what my story is, and what qualifies me to teach you photography. Let’s start with who I am.

My name is Laurence Norah, and I’m a full-time professional travel photographer and travel blogger. I started my travel blog, Finding the Universe, back in 2010 when blogging was still a relatively new and unusual thing to do! In 2015, I married my wife Jessica, who had her own travel blog Independent Travel Cats. Today we run them both together.

I’m originally from the United Kingdom, and have been lucky enough to travel all around the world. I’ve had the pleasure of living in a number of countries, including Australia, New Zealand, France, the USA, the Seychelles, and many parts of the UK. Currently we’re based just near Bath in the UK.

I love to take photos, and I love to write about the process of photography. If you’re curious about my style of writing, check out some of the photography tips on my website.

I’ve been a keen photographer since my early years, when my parents gifted me a film SLR camera at age 13. I was lucky enough to have access to a dark room at school, so I took classes and learnt photography the old fashioned way. I would get my first digital camera at age 21.

My hobby grew into a profession. Today, I’m happy to say that I’ve been taking photos for over thirty years, and in my career my photos have appeared in a number of magazines and news sites, including in USA TodayThe TimesBuzzFeedThe Evening StandardNational Geographic, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan, Reader’s Digest, CNN, Huffington Post, Conde Nast Traveler, Barron’s, and on the BBC.

I’ve also had the pleasure of working with numerous clients, from tourism boards like Visit Florida, Visit Great Britain, and Patronat de Turisme Costa Brava Girona, to well known photography brands like Panasonic and Vanguard.

Teaching photography is a logical extension of my passion, as it means I get to share my love of taking photos with other people. I’ve taught photography in person at workshops and seminars around the world, from Dublin to Dubai. I’ve also been invited to speak at numerous conferences and shows about travel photography to both professionals and the public, including at The Photography Show, TBEX, TravelCon, TTG Italia, and Arabian Travel Market.

This online course went live in late 2016, and has enabled me to teach photography to over 2,000 people. It’s been very rewarding, and I love helping people master their camera and take the next steps in their photography journey.

I know that photography can be an intimidating subject, and it’s all too easy to leave your camera in Auto mode and hope for the best. Which is why I decided to create this course – to help people learn to master their camera, and start getting great photos!

The course takes a step-by-step approach to helping you improve your photography and it’s packed with examples, images, and videos, making what can seem like a complex subject easy to understand. Whether you are a complete beginner or a long-time amateur, this course meets you where you are to help you start improving your photography right away.

I also wanted to create an active community of like-minded photographers who can support each other and lift each other up. Many members have said how much they love the course Facebook group that comes as part of the course, and how supportive and positive they feel it is.

I hope this page has helped you learn a little bit about me, the person behind the course. I’m here to answer any questions you might have prior to purchase, and will be here to support your photography journey going forward! If you have any questions, please, just drop me an e-mail via our contact page.
